Mathematics Department

FIRST AND SECOND

This mathematics syllabus features three parts, the first consisting of a list of topics and their corresponding concepts, divided into three terms, and each term showing the number of weeks and the number of lessons to be taught. The second part consists of possible learning and teaching techniques, and the third, of the main books and other important resource materials to be used.

It is “height” or “pyramid” syllabus in that each piece of new learning, or step, depends on the previous step, and the syllabus therefore builds upward in a logical order.

Each topic consists of a list of teachable concepts. One or two or more concepts may be combined and taught in one lesson. The corresponding number of lessons on each topic, and how long it will take to cover these lessons will depend on the caliber or level of the students. Hence, the number of lessons will vary from teacher to teacher.

Second Form students continue reviewing and reinforcing the basic concepts n Functions, Relations, and Graphs; in Algebra; in Geometry; in Measurement; and in Statistics.
