History Department

The History department involves the teaching of Caribbean History at the lower level, First and Second Form and the upper level, third and fourth.

The objectives of teaching Caribbean History at the lower level is to expose students to past events which have occurred in our country and region, and which have helped to shape who we are as Belizeans and our position in the region. It also fosters students’ cognitive development and communication skills.

Meanwhile at the Upper Level, Third and Fourth, students are fully prepared for sitting the Caribbean Examinations Council Secondary Education Certificate Examinations. This is a two year course which requires extensive study of the history of the region from the Indigenous People to the various Independence Movements up to 1985. A component called School Based Assessment is also required.
