Food and Nutrition Department

The Food and Nutrition programme existed since Pallotti High School began; first with classes held at the St Joseph Parish, then moved to the Pallottine Convent and now in the Pallotti High School permanent kitchen.

In 1984 the first Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exam was taken. In the years before the young women took the General Certificate of Education (GCE)  which, like the CXC, gave superior results.

The syllabus for Food and Nutrition which we are using is intended to provide opportunities for development of skills in planning, preparation and presentation of food. This is the basis for a healthy lifestyle and well being.  The young women are also taught to understand the Nature of Food and the Principles of Nutrition.

Young women taking Food and Nutrition for the four years of high school are encouraged to take the Food and Nutrition CXC. This is an important step toward their career if they are considering to become a Nurse, Doctor, Dietitian, Nutritionist, Caterer, Culinary Artist or to prepare healthy nutritious meals for their own families.
